The Best Pizza in Capri {Buca di Bacco}
My friend Holly and I have had a long running disagreement about the best pizza in Capri. We both swear on a particular place and we are both sure we are 100% right. On my last trip I decided to listen to my friend, who by the way lives on the island and has a Caprese husband, and see for myself is there another great pizza to be had in Capri?
I have told you about Lo Sfizio before. This off the beaten track place is a family favorite and had the bonus of being just around the corner from where we stayed the last few trips. And they make this carrot dish that I like so much I order two plates whenever we go. This time we were staying in a different part of town, I was still limping with a lingering knee injury and it was time to try somewhere new.
We squeezed through the late summer throngs in the Piazzetta and wound our way up the via Longano to Buca di Bacco. At the ludicrously early hour of 8:30pm the small restaurant was practically empty. There were a few foreign vacationers scattered about. There is one large window at the end of the room with a fantastic view out over the water. The friendly waiter asked would we like the table with the view or a cozier table in the corner. We chose the view and enjoyed speculating what was for dinner on George Packer's ice breaker floating below as the sky turned shades of blue like a live action Rothko painting.
Faster than I could post to my snapchat story my cold draft beer our pizzas arrived. Neapolitan style chewy crusts, melty mozzarella, singed from the wood oven cherry tomatoes and zingy tomato sauce, these were very good pizzas.The only thing missing was the carrots scapece.
Thankfully Holly is too polite to say I told you so.
