Octopus {Eating in Rome} CLOSED 2017
Octopus has closed but there is now a Tuscan wine bar in its place. MT Enogallery
I have a general rule. If I can not see the sea, I don't eat fish. Luckily for me, Rome is very close to the sea and we spend just about any free moment we have at the beach, I have plenty of opportunities to dine on fresh seafood.
But, rules are meant to be broken and the other day I broke one of mine and had lunch at Octopus, a new spot in my Monti neighborhood.
First off the design wows in this small casual place on the via Urbana. From the octopus mosaic set in the entrance floor to the ostrich egg lamps meant to evoke ancient Roman oil lamps every element is handmade and has historical inspiration.
As soon as we sat down we were brought cups of ice water with our menus, a touch surely inspired by the owners America born wife.
It was a very hot afternoon so the raw fish dishes were very appealing. I chose tuna with green influences of dill, olives, and yogurt. My pal ordered swordfish with tomatoes, capers, mint, and basil. We asked for a glass of white wine that would complement our choices and I can not remember what was brought it was wonderful.
There are cases filled with piles of oysters flown in from France and trays of fresh octopus salad and a menu full of fresh and creative raw fish dishes, wines and craft beer selections.
If you are a rule breaker and missing the sea, Octopus in Monti is the place for you.
