Hamburgers in Rome {Ciao Checca}
So this spot is not strictly a burger joint like so many other places I visit. In fact it is just the opposite. Housed in what used to be the very fancy tile shop Bisazza where they fortunately left the snazzy black and white mosaic floor, Ciao Checca has transformed the former decor shop space. It is now bright and airy with sleek white marble, a warm wooden communal table and pops of kelly green.
The concept is healthy fast food made with the best ingredients that come from passionate producers. I know I should have ordered one of the healthy and wholesome offerings like Cicercha e Cicoria or the signature Pasta alla Checca, but there was a patty melt on the menu.
While not made with caraway seeded rye bread as tradition dictates, I almost didn't notice. If you are craving a diner style sandwich this will cure it. My dining pal Elizabeth chose a healthier option the tongue twisting Cicercha e Cicoria which was also delicious, creamy and hearty, but not heavy.
The display case of pastas, grains, greens and cheese was beautifully arranged like a still life painting. Freshly pressed juices and craft beers are on the drinks menu. There is a small shelf located at the entrance that is filled with olive oil, honey, tins of red beans and chocolate available to purchase.
Most menu items are also available gluten free.
