Rock Climbing {La Roccia dell'Orso + Sardegna}

I am very lucky to be spending this week in Sardegna with my good pal Estelle.  Internet connectivity is not so great, so this weeks posts may be brief and sporadic.

The weather forecast for our first few days has been quite changeable, going from turquoise skies to gray, wet showers in minutes.  We managed a quick jaunt to a beloved Palau site known as Roccia dell'Orso.

I felt like I was back in Zimbabwe in the Matopos, or Domboshowa with giant granite bolders and interesting lichens.  All that was missing were the klipspringers.

An easy climb to the top affords a spectacular 360 degree view over archipelago of la Maddelena, Palau, and the the old military Forte di Capo d’Orso.

The rock formation that is in the shape of a bear is quite extraordinary.

  2. Gorgeous landscape. I've always wanted to visit (and eat in) Sardinia. Saving this post for future trip planning :)

  3. The landscape of norther Sardinia is amazingly like that of the western Cape, South Africa: craggy rocks in amazingly and fantastic formations, the wind, the dense scrubby bush with its gorgeous herby smells(Sardinia's 'la macchia mediterranea' and the South African 'fynbos' astonishly similar). Beautiful photos! Thank you.
